For years, most of my strength workouts used to take from 40
minutes to one hour, my endurance workouts usually about 40
minutes, my speed and technical workouts (including sparring or
grappling) from one to one hour and a half. (These times include
warming up before and cooling down after the main part of the
workout.)
My strength workouts followed the rules laid out in my columns
and
in the book Science of Sports Training.
Those are: warm-up with
easy exercises that become gradually more intense, then do the
power moves (those that are done fast), then (relatively) slow
strength moves, and finally the strength-endurance (muscular
endurance).
This was (and is) very well and works fine--but that was then,
before I was 50.
Now my strength workouts have changed ... they are shorter, more
compact, with fewer exercises per workout, but no less
effective--rather more effective. My endurance workouts got shorter
too.
Would you like to know how do I workout now, when I am past 50?
Think, if something keeps an old geezer in the shape I'm in, then
maybe there is something to it that anyone, at any age, can use?
What prompted me to write about it were questions I had read (and
had answered) on Stadion's Discussion Forum.
Check the thread
Lack of Progress in the forum How to Stretch for Full Flexibility
with No Warm-Up.
Other matters:
Stadion offers now the Kickers Bundle, a set of three
DVDs (Secrets
of Stretching, Power High Kicks with No Warm-Up!, and Clinic on
Stretching and Kicking), at a discount and with free shipping to
anywhere in the world.
My new short video is posted on YouTube. It is titled Men in
Hanging Splits = Flexibility with Strength. It shows people who
actually followed the instruction in my book or my DVD on
flexibility training. On the audio track there is a short interview
with me--you may find it motivational and educational.
So, read the thread I mentioned, view the
video on YouTube , and
you'll understand what I mean by "stupid things."
Sincerely,
Thomas Kurz
